When balancing my pack with BMS123, I noticed the boards get very hot (some +65°C). Is it OK?

Firstly, for large size battery banks and for cells that have become disbalanced, we strongly recommend avoiding long time balancing. The suggested solution is to charge the cells individually with a single cell charger.

Secondly, when the balancing boards are properly mounted, during a short time balancing, the mass of the cells is sufficient to absorb the heat from the balancing board. If your board overheats check the proper and tight mounting to the terminal.

Thirdly, in case you have no other way and need to keep balancing for a longer period of time, we suggest to install additional PCB board   coolers (heat sinks)     and fans that will remove the heat.

Anyway, improper installation, long time balancing, overheating of the PCB board of the BMS, and overheating of the cells themselves will shorten the life span of your battery pack significantly. It may also lead to the direct damage of the products.

Keep your battery pack healthy and enjoy a long service time.
