Question: I wish to compare three cells from different producers. All three of them have the same 100Ah capacity, however one is 3.6 kg, the other is 2.75 kg and the third is only 1.98 kg. How to explain this?

Answer: Well, the higher the mass of the cell, the more powerful and more reliable and stable is the performance of the cells. That is easy! Like with a sportsmen in wrestling: who will perform better: the 60 kg, 80 kg or the 100 kg?  The law is – the more mass – the more powerful.

You cannot defy the laws of nature – especially in the battery industry. The higher the energy density of the cell, the more of the negative properties will appear in the function of cell itself.

Inner resistance – for high density cell the inner resistance is higher than for the lower density cells.

Limited current performance – the higher inner resistance causes that the cells have more limitations of the discharging current that can be applied to the cells.

Temperature dependence – the high-density cells have a higher temperature dependence. They will easily overheat and may need to be cooled to keep their performance. Also, they usually do not support the low temperatures operations.

So which cell will you choose?
