A lot of the questions about batteries are related to changing the old battery for the new one, or building a new project as building the electrical system on board.

The optimal solution for this case is to use LiFePO4 cells which are suitable for electric boats, cars, and other EV applications. It is due to the LiFePO4 technology is safe and there are long lifetime and thousands of charging cycles.

The most common voltage for the sailing yacht is 12V. Capacity always depends on the consumption of energy and expectation of functioning without the funds from the generator.
One of the most popular battery packs is 12V 400Ah. To achieve 12V battery is needed a serial connection of four 3,2V 400Ah cells.

It is necessary to use the protection of the battery bank by using a DC contactor at the power cable to motor to work as the main switch for the high current application.
