The NMC cells have a higher energy density, it means that they contain more energy per each dm3 (liter) of the volume. The issue with the NMC technology is that it can become thermally unstable, start overheating and get into a process of self-burning.

The situation when the cells become internally unstable is called the thermal runaway. It is usually the result of overcharging, mechanical accident and mainly a manufacturing failure of one of the cells.

The video shows the thermal runways of the cells of an electric vehicle that got burnt completely.
