FAQ: Solar panels left in sunshine without any consumption

Question: What happens if the PV solar panels are not used for energy generation and they are left at full sun-shine for long times.  Could the PV panels over heat and become damaged?

Answer: The PV panels do not have any risk of overheating when left at full sunshine. If there is no load connected, the panels stay at the open voltage (as given by the specification) and nothing else happens.

As far as we know, there is been no scientific proof to show that panels that are left unused at full sunshine would have some significant changes of the specifications.

Summary: solar panels can be left unattended at full sunshine without overheating or degradation.
