GWL’s customer operating the electric bus with a LFP battery pack has involuntary performed a real EV Bus crash test. The bus driver in Northern Bohemia was passing the railway, while the local train was approaching. Unfortunately, the bus driver did not let the train pass first and the electric bus was hit by the train into the back side.

In this part of the bus, there is the 180 kWh battery pack using the Winston LFP 300AH cells. Even though the bus was hit heavily, and the battery pack was damaged, there was not any accident resulting into fire or smoke from the battery pack. The LFP battery proved fully safe and reliable.

Of cause we are deeply sad because of this accident, in which several passengers were hurt and had to be taken to hospital. Luckily there was not any serous injury and there was no loss of life.

Imagine this bus were operated using the NMC – easy to explode – battery pack? What would be the result? Image the bus would be powered by the hydrogen and the train would hit the high pressure tank….

The safety for the energy storage technology is the key for the success of the operation. GWL keeps encouraging all customers to use the safe and reliable LFP technology.
