A nice photo from a GridFree installation —- BUT WITH A PROBLEM!

A customer sent a photo from his first solar GridFree installation. This idea is easy: simply putting the solar panels on the flat roof of the house.

However looking at details of this installation, the installation will not work effectively. See the explanation:

  • The shadow of the brick in the front covers 3 cells. As a result the whole solar panel will will loose the performance.  It is not possible to let some objects cover even a small part of the solar panel.
  • The shadow of the chimney is covering a large proportion of the second solar panel.  This will not work. The output power of this solar panel will be fully blocked by this shadowed area. It is not possible to allow shadows of external object pass through the solar panels area.

Conclusion: this installation is completely wrong and will yield only very limited solar power.  It is necessary to move the solar panels to a place where there will be absolutely no shading on the panels.
