FAQ: What is the self consumption of the MicroInverters?

The self consumption of the MicroInverters has two points of view.

  • The self consumption of the inverter in the operational mode
The effectiveness of the inverter is between 94% to 96% of the nominal power.  If we have 250Wp panel at full power, and the take the worst value of 94%, we get some 6% energy loss. This means some 15W energy will be used by the inverter during the DC to AC inversion process.  Please note that it is usual for all inverter to have this kind of internal consumption, as reflected by their effectiveness.

  • The self consumption in the standby mode
When the light conditions change to night, the inverter will turn into a standby mode.  At the standby mode, all functions of the inverter will stop and the consumption from the grid will be very low. The stand-by consumption is less than 0.2 Watts. This means a complete 3.8 kW installation with 16 inverters will have the stand-by consumption less than 3.2 Watts.  The stand by consumption of central inverters is usually much higher.

The high quality design and minimized self consumption of the MicroInverters is another advantage of this technology!
